Introduction

Our History


In 1990 B.S., under the Director of Medical Services, a Cholera Hospital was established at the pati (public shelter) located in Teku, where the ropeway terminal currently stands.

In 2007 B.S., the hospital was shifted from the old pati to a new building at its present location.

In 2019 B.S., it was named the Infectious Disease Unit and operated under Bir Hospital, and in the same year, the hospital was also renovated.

In 2034 B.S., it was renamed Infectious Disease Hospital and separated from Bir Hospital, operating as an independent hospital.

In 2037 B.S., a Gastroenterology Unit was established under this hospital.

From 2042 B.S., the Infectious Disease Hospital came to be known as Teku Hospital.

On Shrawan 1, 2050 B.S., it was again renamed Infectious Disease Hospital, and the Central Leprosy Clinic and Anti-Rabies Clinic were incorporated into the hospital.

According to the Teku Hospital Development Committee Formation Act 2049, it was converted into the Teku Hospital Development Committee from Jestha 29, 2053 B.S.

From Magh 11, 2053 B.S., the name of Teku Hospital was changed to Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital.

As per the decision of the Council of Ministers dated Marga 30, 2054 B.S., the Central Leprosy Clinic was separated from Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital and placed under the Leprosy Control Division.

Currently, the hospital operates under the Ministry of Health and Population as a 100-bed referral hospital for tropical and infectious diseases.
